Blog #50 Filming Day 2 - Scene 10, Shot 5

 This is the final shot in my film, so fittingly its a one shot, after Dillon is killed, the cult members including Anna all group in the middle of the yard and join hands in worship of their deity. This is a slower and more dramatic shot bringing in a supernatural feel to the cult, while expanding on the theme and messaging while doing so.

I used the lighting in this shot to show the black being the color of everyone else, of 'normality' and I used the light as Dillons personality/ true self once again, and I used the light to make it appear almost as if Dillon is bleeding, lying in a puddle of his personality/ true self; a puddle of light now that he has hidden away who he is.

Cultmembers join hands in worship as a gust of wind hits them - Three shot - Pan - Pan up

In this shot I have a gust of wind hit the cast before they look up to the sky and the camera pans up to the sky, where I will superimpose an eyeball looking down at them. To do the gust of wind effect, I had Gavin(Dillon) grab a leaf blower hidden behind him on the set - theres no way to see it in the shot it was behind a plant, and you cannot make out anything in that corner it is too dark - and once the camera panned away from him, I gave him a verbal cue to grab the leafblower and walk over, and hit Lauren(Anna), Cole(Cult Member), and Robert(Cult Member), giving the effect of most notably Lauren's hair blowing back.

I am very happy with this shot and I am looking forwards to adding the super imposed eye deity.

  The Empty Man (2020) I want to make a horror short film that focuses on a single character who is alone in their house and is stalked and attacked by cult members. I plan to include a practical gore set piece in my short film, and I plan to base my short film off of themes of self love, identity, worthlessness and toxic relationships. Right now my ideas and plans are all over the place, and I will do research and brainstorming to lower down my thoughts and get a solid story with clear messaging. I also want to look back at my previous final project, which is also a horror film with a gore set piece, and piece out criticisms and improvements I can make this time around. As I am creating a short film focusing mainly on one character I will also look into short and effective forms of character development, so that my film can introduce it's character, play out its story and have clear messaging in a natural pace that keeps the audience entertained throughout.

FADE IN   INT. SUBURBAN HOME - DILLONS BEDROOM - MORNING                        1 An alarm buzzes as DILLON wakes up to turn it off, and begins his morning routine; DILLON works out in his home gym, then opens instagram and looks at people's stories. DILLON then brushes his teeth, showers and gets on the school bus. CUT TO: INT.
