Blog #31 Gathering Props/ Materials

 Now that I have planned my practical effects, I now know what I need to buy, and what I need to order.

my list is:

  • 2 fake skulls
  • Red/Cherry/Strawberry Jello
  • Plastic bags
  • Corn Syrup
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Cheap mixing bowl
I went ahead and ordered the skulls online because I knew I would have a tough time finding any this far from halloween. The skulls are made of silicon which I think will look great and break similarly to a real bone/skull. I also decided to buy the red food coloring online rather than in the store because last time when I went to gather materials for my previous film the only food coloring available was in very small containers, and I ended up having to buy multiple, so this time I ordered a sizable amount. And at the store I was able to find the jello, plastic bags, corn syrup, blue food coloring, and a cheap bowl all in one go.

One last material I needed which I wouldn't have to buy anywhere, is an old shirt or cloth in the same color as Dillon/Gavin's shirt. Now that I have all my props/ materials I can begin to create my effects of blood and flesh covering the skulls.

  The Empty Man (2020) I want to make a horror short film that focuses on a single character who is alone in their house and is stalked and attacked by cult members. I plan to include a practical gore set piece in my short film, and I plan to base my short film off of themes of self love, identity, worthlessness and toxic relationships. Right now my ideas and plans are all over the place, and I will do research and brainstorming to lower down my thoughts and get a solid story with clear messaging. I also want to look back at my previous final project, which is also a horror film with a gore set piece, and piece out criticisms and improvements I can make this time around. As I am creating a short film focusing mainly on one character I will also look into short and effective forms of character development, so that my film can introduce it's character, play out its story and have clear messaging in a natural pace that keeps the audience entertained throughout.

SUBURBAN HOME - DILLONS BEDROOM - MORNING                        1 An alarm buzzes as DILLON wakes up to turn it off, and begins his morning routine; DILLON works out in his home gym, then opens instagram and looks at people's stories.
