Blog #22 Creating a Title

One of the most important parts of a film is its title. A movies title is what attracts the audience to it, and is a strong word or phrase which encapsulates the picture's themes and story.

For example an iconic horror film franchise title is Scream. The title is simple and effective, instantly communicating to the audience that the film is horror, while communicating an energetic tone from the mental image of a scream, allowing the audience to expect kills, intense chase scenes, and fights. I plan to create a unique title which, similar to Scream's will only be one word.

After much consideration I have chosen Flawless as my short film's title.

I have chosen Flawless as it reflects the themes of my film quite well; communicating the romantic tones in my film and it also implies perfection something the main character Dillon seeks in his self image. One detail I really like about the title is that it doesn't instantly imply horror, not without some context, this hint towards the genre hybridization and mix of repertoires, which keep my film engaging and differentiate it from a typical slasher.

Now with my film's title I can properly market it, and attract a real audience, as-well as enter it into film festivals.
