Blog Post #6 Analyzing Film Production Companies

I need to release my short film under a production company. Film production companies are extremely important to the creation and release of films theatrically, on streaming services, and on physical media. They provide funding, manage the films budget, secure the necessary equipment needed for the film such as cameras, trailers, and more. They also create a handful of jobs involving the film being made, opening spots for set designers, practical effects artists, catering, transportation, and more.

Some notable companies are:

Walt Disney Pictures

A mass media company for theatrical releases, streaming, and physical media, being a major license owner of a plethora of popular IPs, such as characters in the Marvel universe, StarWars, Pixar, and more.

A24

A smaller company, but extremely notable, also including theatrical, streaming and physical releases. A24 almost marks a shift or dramatization of film studio engagement, due to its focus on unusual and original stories, it has compiled audiences that tune into each and every film as if they were a series like Marvel or DC, A24 is unique for this as most film studios put out very diverse films targeted at separate audiences; you will very rarely if ever see people watch a film "because its Universal".

Atomic Monster

An even smaller production company (now merged with Blumhouse) created by film director James Wan, which would produce primarily(but not strictly) horror films especially those directed by himself like the conjuring films, and its proceeding film universe(only the first 2 films are helmed by James Wan).

My production company will be closest to that of Atomic Monster; being a smaller company and created by a film director. It will not be in the ranks of major studios and IP holders like Disney and Universal.
